Humans and plants share a special history and evolution that extends far back in time. Plants provide nutrition, fiber, and even medicine that keeps humans alive and well. When humans learned how to live with plants through agriculture, it allowed us to develop our settlements and become more complex as a society.
In this studio, students observe the plant-human relationship today and consider future change as both a challenge and an opportunity. Through a series of hands-on assignments, research, and brainstorming, student teams will design and prototype plant-inspired wearables.
"Plants may not seem to lead lives as complex as those of animals, especially since they can’t move much from the spot where they’ve sprouted. They have, however, found many ways around their immobile lifestyle to reproduce, compete with other plants for resources, adapt to their environment, and avoid or defend themselves from herbivores." - Ask Nature
Ever since the beginning of civilization, the association between man and plants is known well and the basic needs required for a man such as food, clothing, fuel, shelter, medicine, etc were, to a certain extent, fulfilled by plants. Saudi Arabia contains one of the diverse floras of this region. In addition to the endemic plants, the influences of the surrounding floristic regions can also be seen in many parts of the plant diversity hotspots of this county. - Plants of Saudi Arabia
