Purpose
Presentations are the story of your project - from early sketches and inspiration, through prototypes and more developed ideas, presentations highlight the pieces of the process that led each student to their latest project.
Prompt
In this assignment, you will create your final presentation, which will become part of your online portfolio of work. This presentation will be shared with the public during your final presentation to an audience of peers, professionals, and family.
(Tools: either our platform slide editor. google slides, canvas, ppt you choose)
Estimated Time: 1/2 hours for creating the visual presentation, project statement, and practicing your presentation. 1-2 hour for presentation and feedback. Each presentation should last 5 minutes with 2 minutes for feedback.
Instructions
1. In this assignment, you will compile all your work to present to your class. Presentations should take 5 minutes or less in order to make sure everyone has a chance to present. Typically, you will receive 2 minutes of feedback following your presentation.
2. In this activity, you will create your final presentation using the template below. Create your presentation in the Nufolio slide editor. Alternatively, you can use Google Slides, and then post the Sharable Link in a post; however, you must set your share settings to "Anyone with the Link" can "View" (see image below). This post has two components: the visual presentation and the written project description.
3. Create the presentation. Your presentation should include the following slides:
Slide 1: Title slide with a evocative image that highlights the kind of experience you want your project to provide users. With a project title and team member names.
Slide 2: Thesis Statement (1-2 sentence project statement that explains the overall idea of your project) along with an image of your final prototype.
Slide 3: Site Research (What site did you choose and why did you choose it?). Include photos of your site.
Slide 4: Site Analysis Drawings - include analysis drawings of your site and photos.
Slide 5: Precedent project image(s) that inspired your project. Highlight what you design features that you incorporated into your own idea.
Slide 6: Photographs of the Lo-Fi prototypes (shared in your midterm presentation) you created.
Slides 7-9: Final Prototype Photos, with your design installed on the site and with people interacting with your design!
Slide 10: Storyboard drawing illustrating how your delightful intervention is intended to be used!
Slide 11: "Thank You" slide.
4. The Project Statement is a 1-2 paragraph project description that explains the overall idea of your project to someone who is unfamiliar with the topic. Below is a series of key points to consider as you write this final project description. Keep in mind that you should not simply put all of the answers together -- you must weave it together into a clear story. Add this to your final presentation.
The what is a clear statement of the overall idea/thesis.
The why explains how your project changes the world. It is the reason your project exists – what social issue is it engaging, who is your project helping, how does the project change the world, and what important social, intellectual, or technical questions does it raise? The scope of the why can vary widely.
The how briefly explains what technical prowess, innovative methods, or cool materials you used in your solution.
The who explains who will use your design, why they will use it, and in what context.
Think of the reader - it is good to imagine that a university admissions officer AND a potential employer in the field of your design should both be able to understand and be excited by the project based on your writing.
5. Present Your Design Process! This is the moment you've been waiting for! You will share your presentation with your class and possibly additional guests.
Tip: Try to practice your presentation before this final session. This will provide an opportunity to improve your presentation and make sure you're keeping on schedule.
Enjoy sharing all of your hard work with an audience eager to learn all about it!
